The importance of using a MARA Registered Migration Agent
Registered Migration Agents must:
- Meet professional standards and follow a strict code of conduct
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of migration law and procedure
- Ensure all staff are also compliant with the MARA code of conduct
- The Migration Agents Registration Authority (MARA) has released a brief video outlining the importance of using a Registered Migration Agent
The Office of the MARA monitors the conduct of Registered Migration Agents both in and outside Australia to ensure that only the highest level of advice and assistance is provided to prospective applicants. The industry regulations provided by OMARA ensure that only suitable persons are registered to provide immigration advice.
The DIBP strongly advise that if you need assistance with the visa process that you appoint an agent who is registered with the Migration Agents Registration Authority (MARA). A person who is not registered with MARA cannot offer you legal protection and you run the risk of being exposed to migration fraud by someone who has limited knowledge on immigration procedures.
Code of Conduct
All agents must follow the Code of Conduct for registered migration agents (the Code). This means the agent must meet the obligations set out in the Code. Your agent will provide you with a copy of the Code if you ask for it. Code of Conduct for registered migration agents
Consumer Guide
When you sign a contract, your agent must give you a copy of the Consumer Guide. The Consumer Guide includes a summary of the Code, what you can expect from your agent, what the Office of the Migration Agents Registration Authority does, and how you can complain to MARA if you need to.
